All About Paris

19 Great Paris Hotels

A list of exceptional Paris hotels

Great location, great service, memorable food – all these Paris hotels have that, and more. The list is in no particular order; it made sense to us to let all nineteen hotels be viewed as equals. Hotel des Academies des Arts had the benefit of being the first hotel we chose for our list, so it occupies top slot for no other reason than that.

You will rarely find a gym or a pool at Paris hotels that aren’t 5-star, but you will invariably find a cute breakfast room and a space for evening drinks at virtually all of them. Paris hotels are often built around an inner courtyard, which makes for natural sound-proofing if your hotel is on a busy street, be sure and request an inner-courtyard room if available.

Also, see our “Best Hotels in the South of France” and “Best Hotels in the Rest of France” lists.

2. HOTEL MARIGNAN CHAMPS ELYSEES – PARIS

With an Art Deco façade and a location in the fashionable “Golden Triangle,” bounded by the Champs Elysses, Avenue Montaigne and Avenue George V, Hotel Marignan offers a hefty dose of fashion itself, with a recently renovated interior by designer Olivier Gagnere and a restaurant overseen by Alain Ducasse.

3. HOTEL DU PANTHEON – PARIS

Information about the Hotel du Pantheon in Paris, France. An historic hotel near the Pantheon in Paris

Across from, naturally, the Pantheon, the Hotel du Pantheon offers gorgeous views of its classic structures — especially at night when they are lit up. The hotel is also close to the Sorbonne, Luxembourg Gardens and the St. Etienne du Mont church. The décor is described as “traditional Louis XVI with a twist” – meaning Provencal-style French Country. The hotel next door, the Hotel des Grands Hommes, is run by the same company and is a little more high-end than the Hotel du Pantheon. They also have an apartment a couple doors down that can be rented by the week.

4. HOTEL DE JUE DE PAUME – PARIS

Hotel de Jue de Paume in Paris, France. Centrally located Jeu de Paume has full hotel services and private apartments

Many Paris hotels are a piece of living history, having once been a grand mansion titled home. Originally a royal mansion housing a handball court (hence the name), the Hotel de Jeu de Paume is small and very private – you could walk by and never know it was there. Relatively budget friendly for its location on the Ile St. Louis near Notre Dame and the Opera Bastille in the very center of Paris. For longer stays, the hotel has two apartments available for rent. One of our favorite boutique Paris hotels.

6. FOUR SEASONS GEORGES V – PARIS

Every Four Seasons offers luxury and Paris’ Georges V is that and more.

Paris Hotels Top Pick: Paris hotels range from charming to magnificent, this is one of the magnificent. The best of Paris hotels – the Georges V.

Devotees of “Sex and the City” may remember it as the hotel where Sarah Jessica Parker and Mikhail Baryshnikov canoodled. It’s also where Meg Ryan found her fiancé stepping out on her in “French Kiss.” But all that luxury and celeb cred come at a price: “moderate” rooms start at 730 euros a night.

The hotel offers 14 reasonably priced rooms on the 6th floor in gallery B of the hospital, which is located in one of the best spots in the city: on the Ile de la Cite next to Notre Dame cathedral.

11. HOTEL PLAZA ATHENEE – PARIS

Beautiful cocktails make for mingling with 5 star ambience at the Plaza Athenee

Certain Paris hotels go in an out of style, but Paris itself never does and neither has the Plaza Athenee. The hotel opened in 1911 near the Theatre des Champs Elysees, making the hotel a popular gathering spot for composers and performers from the very beginning. Later, Christian Dior – and other haute couture boutiques – opened on Avenue Montaigne and the hotel’s reputation as a center for high fashion was added. The hotel is ideal for those who want to be part of the “scene” – with the year-old Dior Institute and views of the Eiffel Tower an added bonus. One of the funnest lounges of all Paris hotels.

While surrounded by some of the priciest Paris hotels and toniest streets, La Tremoille offers a little (not a lot, but a little) more of a bargain in terms of price – plus cocktails and jazz at its hip bar and restaurant, Louis 2 (in honor of Louis Armstrong).

14. THE RITZ PARIS HOTEL

Paris Hotels Top Pick: Gorgeous setting and service, and stellar history are what the Ritz is all about. – The fact that the word “ritzy” comes from the man who built and ran The Ritz Paris should give a bit of a clue as to what to expect. Cesar Ritz was considered the “king of hoteliers, and hotelier to kings” and he built The Ritz Paris in 1898 on Place Vendome to be his pride and joy.

The hotel has seen a long line of celebrities and royalty come through its doors (and exit them, as Princess Diana did on a fateful evening in 1997) due to its legendary service — and discretion. When you think of Paris hotels, you think of the Ritz.

15. HOTEL BANKE – PARIS

Quirky luxury in a central, less touristy, part of Paris.

There are high end decorative touches like flat screen tv, and shower/tubs in most rooms. Located in a lovely, walkable part of Paris, very near the Galeries Lafayette shopping district and therefore there are plenty of cafes and wine bars.

Decor is not understated, so if you are looking for soothing beige, look elsewhere. The onsite restaurant is exceptional, with an emphasis on light and fresh fare with a Spanish, tapas flair. Hotel staff is super helpful, even loaning quality umbrellas to guests unprepared for rain.

18. LE CRILLON – PARIS

While strolling the Champs Elysees, imagine finishing up at this king of luxe hotels, Le Crillon.

Paris Hotels Top Pick: Truly one of the best Paris hotels. Located at the foot of the Champs Elysees, Le Crillon began life in 1758 as one of two adjacent buildings commissioned by King Louis XV. One stayed a government building (and is today used by the French Navy) while the other was turned into a luxury hotel enjoyed by the likes of Queen Marie Antoinette. To this day, Le Crillon is dedicated to providing the finer things in life. 19. NOUVEL HOTEL – PARIS

Two stars in a great neighborhood off of Rue Le Courbe

About Nouvel Hotel – Paris

Why the modest two star Nouvel Hotel on a list of Paris’s best hotels? Well, it is the first hotel we ever stayed at while in Paris. During my stay at this tiny hotel I fell in love with Paris. Later when I came up with the idea of Link Paris as a business, I realized my vision of Paris, and therefore France, was formed while staying at this out of the way tiny hotel off of Rue Lecourbe.

It is in a truly Parisian neighborhood. A delightful place. Small shops and eateries for locals abound.

Nouvel Hotel Paris represents, on this list, whatever hotel you find among the thousands of charming places to stay in France. Use our “France 50” as a suggestion guide, but by no means discount your own research.
