Get to know Bordeaux, savor oysters, and taste Medoc wines. Bordeaux has more historically-preserved streets and architecture than almost anywhere in France. As a wine city going back to the 8th century, it's a natural choice for any wine-loving visitor to France. High speed TGV train gets you there in 90 minutes.
Price: $525 ($695 with 2nd Class Rail, $745 with 1st Class Rail).
DAY 1 - BORDEAUX
Train station pickup and transfer to your hotel. If arriving in early afternoon, we recommend a visit to the Cite du Vin, the world's largest wine museum (tickets can be included). Then have a walk or a rest before heading to your pre-reserved dinner at one of Bordeaux's traditional restaurants.
DAY 2 - ARCACHON AND THE MEDOC
Just an hour's drive from Bordeaux is the Atlantic Ocean and the gorgeous Bay of Arcachon. After hotel check out (bags stored for the day), you'll visit an oyster farm and do a tasting paired with crisp white wine. Then choose to climb Pyla's Sand Dune, the biggest in Europe. Or just take a cool photo for Instagram.
Back to Bordeaux for a generous picnic lunch in the center of town. Then you'll take a beautiful drive via minivan to the countryside for two Medoc tastings, one at a famous appellation, the other at a well-regarded family estate. Breads, cheeses and meats are offered to complement the wines.
