With its twenty-two Grand Crus, it’s been called the “Champs-Elysées” of Burgundy. Travel old stone roads and see vineyards dating back to the medieval Cistercian monks who discovered and cultivated the area. Along the lovely drive you’ll discover local history and truly appreciate the term “terroir”.
Guided tour of the chateau of Vougeot.
Dating to the year 1098, Clos de Vougeot covers over 120 acres of prime Burgundy land; its Grand Cru is one of the region's best wines. (right: a photo of the vineyard at chateau Vougeot)
Tour and wine tasting of local domain and local lunch in Gevrey-Chambertin.
You’ll visit a wine house and typical underground cellar stocked with classic wines in their carefully labeled aging barrels. After the tour, enjoy a wine tasting and lunch featuring local dishes like boeuf bourguignon. We will also stop at the legendary Romanée-Conti, to have a peek at its 4 acres. This very special micro-producer fetches the highest prices per case or bottle every year.
Tour and wine tasting in a local vineyard around Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Visit the cellar and spend some time with the winemakers while sipping some local wines, focusing on some small producers who are rarely shipped outside of France.
Drop-off in Dijon in time for the evening train back to Paris, or stay overnight in Beaune (contact us for hotel options)
Tour runs every Wednesday and Friday
Surrounding the elegantly picturesque town of Beaune, the Côte de Beaune with its undulating landscapes produces famous red, and white, appellations. The dominant local grapes are pinot noir, as in Pommard and Volnay, and chardonnay, as in the Grands crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Montrachet, and Chevalier-Montrachet. The story of Burgundy and Beaune is the story of the rich and powerful Dukes of Burgundy, visionaries of wine cultivation and promotion.
Scenic drive through the beautiful villages of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and the Château de Rochepot. Guided tour of the Hospices of Beaune, built in 1443 as a hospital for the poor, and now its history is memorialized in a fascinating museum. The hospices of Beaune were built in 1443 and founded by the then chancellor of Burgundy Nicolas Rolin. You will visit the original hospital building (the Hotel Dieu) which is one of the best examples of fifteenth-century architecture, especially the uniquely colorful glazed tile roof.
Once in the vineyards learn to discern the difference between the appellations “Village, 1er Cru and Grand Crus”.
Tour, wine tasting and lunch at a wine house in Santenay. Founded in 1860, this is home to superb vaulted cellars constructed over two levels, the oldest of which dates back to the 15th Century. After a lunch of local fare and wines, you’ll drive to Meursault and along the way glimpse Bâtard-Montrachet, Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet.
Tour and wine tasting in Meursault. In 1848, Jean Ropiteau founded his own wine house when he was just 24, capitalizing on the newly built railway to get these grand locally known wines to Paris and beyond. The name Ropiteau is still synonymous with great white Burgundy wines.
