Welcome to Rouen, the Capital of Normandy and the Seine-Maritime department, which opens it’s doors and heart to you. The city, also known as the ‘Ville aux cent clochers’ dear to Victor Hugo, has preserved much of it’s historical center which is now largely composed of pedestrian streets and walkways.

As you walk through Rouen, past half timbered houses, discover architectural treasures such as the Gothic monuments like the Notre Dame Cathedral, St Ouen Abbey, Saint Maclou Church and the Palais de Justice or Renaissance style monuments like the Gros Horloge, Saint Maclou Ossuary and the Bourgtheroulde Mansion. Or follow in the steps of Richard the Lion Heart, Joan of Arc, Pierre Corneille or Gustave Flaubert, some of the many characters who have been part of Rouen’s history.

After visiting the historical center of Rouen, visit the nearby ‘Sainte Catherine’ hill, from where you can admire a magnificent view of the city and the meandering River Seine or walk along rue Eau de Robec where some watermills, testament to an important textile history when people were making a living out of the cloth manufacturing industry, which is now represented by the sheep symbol.

You can also enjoy a walk along the river which reminds you that the development of the city was due to its port which is still successful.

After your day treasure hunting, come and enjoy cultural events and performances throughout the summer period, for example the ‘From Monet to Pixels’ light show on the façade of the Cathedral which transforms the impressive gothic monument into a huge painting canvas with images inspired by Claude Monet’s paintings.
