Why Bayeux?

Besides being the fist town liberated by the Allies in June of 1944, Bayeux has a long history, dating back to Roman settlement in the 1st century A.D. Today, visitors make a point of seeing the Tapestry Museum, Notre Dame de Bayeux Cathedral, built in 1077, and pay their respects at the Bayeux War Cemetery, where 4648 British soldiers and 466 German soldiers are buried.
