Take two days out of your trip to Paris to come to Normandy.  You’ll visit the Caen Memorial, the D-Day landing beaches and the medieval town of Bayeux.

Why Bayeux?

Besides being the fist town liberated by the Allies in June of 1944,  Bayeux has a long history, dating back to Roman settlement in the 1st century a.d.   Today, visitors make a point of seeing the Tapestry Museum, Notre Dame de Bayeux Cathedral, built in 1077, and pay their respects at the Bayeux War Cemetery, where 4648 British soldiers and 466 German soldiers are buried.    

Menus in this little gastro corner of France are bound to incorporate regional specialties like apples, butter, calvados, and fresh caught seafood from the Atlantic coast, just a few miles away.
